For Victoria, health has always been a journey of learning and adjustment. She spent years managing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and insulin resistance, often finding her blood glucose in the prediabetes range. When she was officially diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in October 2023, it wasn’t a shock, but it still felt pretty overwhelming. Like many people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, she turned to the internet for answers, researching everything she could about glucose management.
That’s when she discovered glucose biosensors and realized how features like 24/7 glucose tracking and personalized insights could change her approach.
How Stelo changed the game
Victoria began using Stelo in 2024, and it's been a significant breakthrough for her. She’s fine-tuned her meals in a personalized way that makes sense for her unique glucose patterns and trends. It’s also given her the confidence to experiment with food combinations and timing.
“I’ve learned I can still have dessert without glucose spikes as long as I eat fiber and protein beforehand.”
She’s even tested out different morning routines, noticing that physical activity early in the day can set her up for optimal glucose levels as the day goes on.
Surprising food discoveries
One of Victoria’s most surprising discoveries while using Stelo was how ribs, which she thought would cause a significant glucose spike, didn't affect her levels as much as expected. Additionally, she found that simply adding peanut butter to an apple helped maintain steady glucose levels, and replacing sour cream with Greek yogurt in a stroganoff recipe positively influenced her body's response.
Everyday movement with Stelo
Beyond structured workouts, Victoria finds that movement naturally fits into her life. Weekend thrifting trips with her husband, long walks with her dog at the beach, and traveling to new places all help her stay active in a way that doesn’t feel like work. And because Stelo tracks her glucose 24/7, she’s learned that these little moments of movement, whether intentional or not, have a real impact on her glucose levels.
Discovering what works, one insight at a time
Victoria’s biggest glucose health goal has always been to bring her A1C down to an optimal range. Alongside Stelo, she’s been working closely with a dietitian, focusing on daily macronutrient goals—particularly managing her carbohydrate intake while increasing protein. One of her favorite Stelo features is the ability to share glucose data directly with her dietitian, allowing her to get personalized advice based on real numbers. She finds comfort in knowing exactly how her body is responding throughout the day.
So far, she’s seen her A1C drop to 5.9%, bringing her back into a target range. It’s been a process of trial and error, but with a strong support system, the right tools, and a deeper understanding of how her body responds to food and activity, Victoria feels more empowered than ever.
Finding strength in community
One of the most valuable lessons Victoria has learned is the importance of community. “It makes such a difference to have people around who understand what you’re going through,” she says. For her, support isn’t just about sharing advice—it’s about feeling seen, understood, and uplifted.
She also recognizes the deep connection between mental health and diabetes management. Managing stress has been a priority, not just for her emotional well-being but because she’s seen firsthand how it affects her glucose levels. Walking, engaging in self-care, and maintaining a balanced approach to food have all played a role in her progress. And through it all, her community has been a steady source of encouragement, reminding her that she doesn’t have to navigate this journey alone.
Advice for others on a similar path
For anyone just starting their glucose health journey, Victoria emphasizes the importance of learning and self-compassion. And if she could go back and give herself advice? “Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
She also wishes more people would ask what diabetes was like for her before Stelo. “There’s still a lot of stigma around talking about it,” she says. “But sharing our experiences helps break that down.”
As she continues using Stelo, Victoria is focused on tracking her glucose patterns, fine-tuning her diet, and making choices that support both her physical and mental well-being.
