You're probably already starting to learn a lot about your body if you're using Stelo to track your glucose. The Glucose Response Score is designed to make those insights easier to understand and act on.
Each time you log a meal or snack, Stelo turns your glucose response into a clear, personalized score that highlights what worked, what didn’t, and what you might try next. No jargon. Just straightforward feedback that helps you build habits that support steadier glucose over time.
And here’s where it gets even more useful: your glucose response isn’t shaped by food alone. Timing, portions, food combinations, movement, sleep, and stress all play a role. The Glucose Response Score helps bring those connections into view, so you can see patterns more clearly and make small, confident adjustments that add up.

What is a Glucose Response Score?

The Glucose Response Score gives you a simple 1–10 view of how your body responds to a meal.
Higher scores are typically associated with less glucose variability, meaning steadier glucose levels after eating. Lower scores highlight patterns like larger or longer-lasting rises in glucose, giving you useful information to explore and experiment with different choices. Rather than getting stuck on any single number, the score offers a quick way to answer a simple question: How did that meal affect my glucose today?

Why does the Glucose Response Score matter?

Sometimes there are surprises when it comes to glucose patterns, especially when you're new to tracking them throughout your day. The Glucose Response Score helps translate your glucose patterns into an easy takeaway, so you can learn from your data without getting lost in the details.
You can use the score to:
  • Spot meals that tend to keep your glucose steadier
  • Compare meals (or routines) and see what changes
  • Notice how timing, portion size, or food pairings can shift your response
  • See how things like activity, sleep, or stress may show up in your post-meal glucose
  • Find ways to enjoy your favorite foods with a steadier response
It's designed to be informative and encouraging-not a judgment (and definitely not a "good food / bad food" label).

How does the Glucose Response Score work?

After you log a meal, Stelo looks at key features of your glucose response over the next two hours. It’s a simple way to turn “what happened after I ate?” into something you can actually use.
The score is based on four factors:
  • Rise rate: How quickly your glucose level increased after a meal
  • Rise amount: A measure of how much your meal caused your glucose levels to increase
  • Total change: A measure of how high and for how long your body is exposed to glucose
  • Recovery: How closely your glucose returned to its pre-meal level
These combined factors create your overall score.

How should I interpret my score?

Scores fall into three general ranges (think of them as helpful guides, not a report card).
Because glucose is influenced by many factors beyond food alone, the score helps you highlight patterns, build awareness, and keep learning over time.

Meal logging and your Glucose Response Score

It’s common to see different scores for meals that look similar on paper. Your glucose response can shift based on where your glucose started, how active you were before or after eating, how you slept, your stress level, hydration, time of day, or even small differences in portion size or ingredients.
Those variations aren’t a problem—in fact, they’re often the point. Over time, they can reveal patterns you wouldn’t catch from a single meal.

Do I need a photo or detailed description to get a score?

Your Glucose Response Score is calculated from glucose data related to logged meals, not from photos or meal descriptions. That said, notes or photos can be a handy way to help “future you” remember what you ate so it’s easier to reflect and spot patterns over time.

What is a meal insight?

Meal insights add context to your score. After logging a meal, you may see an initial insight based on the nutrition information you entered. Once your Glucose Response Score is ready, a second insight reflects how your glucose actually changed after eating. Together, these insights help connect what you ate with how your body responded, so the story is easier to follow.

Why isn’t my Glucose Response Score available for a meal?

Occasionally, a score can’t be generated if glucose data is missing or incomplete—for example, if Bluetooth® was disconnected or the meal was logged long after eating. If that happens, no worries: you’ll still be able to view your glucose graph to see how that meal affected you.

How to use your Glucose Response Score over time

Glucose Response Scores are most meaningful when you look across many meals, not just one. Instead of zooming in on an individual number, watch for trends that help you learn what supports steadier glucose for you.
The goal isn’t a perfect score. It’s curiosity, learning, and gradual progress—using your own data to make choices that feel realistic and sustainable (and that you can actually stick with).
